About Us




Susan Kattwinkel is a Professor in the department of Theatre and Dance, where she teaches Theatre History and Dramaturgy courses. She was the founding director of CofC’s First-Year Experience program and still teaches regularly in the program. She has directed and dramaturged main stage productions at the College and regularly dramaturgs in the community. Her research and publications are primarily on popular theatre since the 19th century. Susan is an avid traveler. In 2013 she taught for the Institute for Shipboard Education’s Semester at Sea program. For one semester she traveled around the world with students, visiting countries in Asia and Africa. She's very excited to share the fantastic city of Edinburgh and some of the beautiful sites of Scotland with FYE Abroad students.

 

Dr. Alison T. Smith is Adjunct Professor in the Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies. Alison has extensive experience with study abroad and service learning abroad. She served as Director or Co-director of CofC Semester in Annot, France, CofC Summer in Trujillo, Spain, and CofC Summer in Austria, Germany, and Italy. Additionally, she was the faculty advisor on Alternate Break trips sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement to Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Costa Rica. Dr. Smith also served as Assistant Director to UNC-Chapel Hill’s Junior Year Abroad in Montpellier, France and as Director of The Citadel’s Summer Abroad in Montpellier, France. Dr. Smith has walked segments of the Camino de Santiago in Spain and the Kerry Camino in Ireland, and she assisted pilgrims while in residence as a volunteer at the Ribadiso Welcome Center in Galicia, Spain. She enjoys sharing her passion for other cultures and languages with students in her classes and abroad.
